Welcome, Jaden!

Jaden Li Duan was born to Dan & Elizabeth this morning at 8:20 a.m. (ET). She weighed in at 8 pounds, 14 ounces and 21 inches long (wow, Liz!). I have to say...she's a cutie!!

A "New" Skirt

I got adventurous today and decided to make a skirt out of one of Sarah's old pairs of jeans (that were getting too small for her). I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

A Visit From Uncle Joe!

This weekend we enjoyed a short visit from Uncle Joe! He was in the area to preach a wedding and stopped by to see us. Hopefully next time he can bring his family with him. The cousins missed playing with each other!

I See You!

Rachel has found a new favorite toy...mirrors! We haven't hung this mirror yet in our front room. We're waiting until we get a piano so we can center it correctly over that. Rachel has found how much fun it is to "talk" to herself and we found her up on her knees in front of it this evening. She continues to amaze us with how quickly she has grown. She loves to stand up and "walk" now (with help, of course) and is constantly on the move. She does an army crawl to get around and is pretty fast! It will be interesting to see when she walks. Sarah walked at 12 months and Benjamin walked at 10 months. Hopefully Rachel won't follow the trend and walk at 8 months!

Paint the Town Blue

Or, at least that is what my son seemed to be set on completing with his most recent artistic endeavor this weekend. I was roused from my work by my wife’s stern voice instructing my son to tell — no, to show — me what he had done. Those of you who have had a three year old in your house at any time are probably already beginning to chuckle, and I assure you that your foreshadowing of enjoyment at my expense will not be disappointed.

I stepped out my front door to see blue. By blue, I don’t mean a blue tint on something; I mean deep, dark, thick blue patches scrawled over almost every surface imaginable. My three and a half year old had decided to exercise his creativity and desire to live in a blue house by coloring it blue himself. I spent the next two hours scrubbing blue sidewalk chalk off white-washed wood pillars, our front door, the garage supports, our brick wall, vinyl siding, garage floor and even the hood of my car. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper by the time I finally got everything back to a somewhat presentable state. What really was amazing to me was the amount of real estate he had been able to cover in a mere five minutes of unsupervised time. After having to sit with me through my entire cleaning ordeal, when I finally called my son into my office to discuss his little mishap, it couldn’t help but chuckle to hear him say, “I’ll do anything you say, Daddy!”

Ah, the joys of parenthood.

Devotional Book Suggestions

We are in the process of trying to find a suitable devotional book for Sarah. She can read and write so we want more of a workbook (similar to the God and I Time books from the Wilds) for her rather than just something to read. We want something that incorporates her reading a passage from her Bible and then she can go to the workbook for follow-up and writing down her thoughts about what she learned. Do you have any suggestions for us?

What's Your Motive?

If you need a good laugh today, check out a blog that I read each week. Today's entry is on what motivates you. There are some great quotes here that I'm sure we could store up to use later!
