New Blog!

We have finally decided to give Blogger a try. We'll be making changes to the new blog over the next few weeks, but will be posting all new items on there rather than on this blog. We hope to see you over at http://managedinsanity.blogspot.com/!

Sarah's First Piano Recital

Words cannot express our joy as parents to watch our "little" girl perform in her very first piano recital. It is so exciting to be on this side of things now, watching our children learn things that we once learned! She played three songs and did an excellent job. After the photos, there is a video...it's a little "bumpy" at first (sorry about that!). You can even hear Rachel call Sarah while Sarah is playing.

Fun With Friends

We are really enjoying the fellowship of the people in our new church, Westside Baptist Church. We try to have families over each week to get to know them better and to meet others as well. Usually we eat dinner and play some board games (and talk, of course!). It's been great to get to know more Christian people that share our interests in life!

Port Angeles "Spit"

After our trip to Hurricane Ridge on Saturday, we stopped at the Port Angeles spit to see the water. We saw some seals, though they were a decent distance away. Sarah loved checking the beach for interesting rocks.

Benjamin preferred throwing the rocks as far out into the water as he could.

Hurricane Ridge

On Saturday some friends called and invited us to go with them to Hurricane Ridge (about an hour from our house).

The day was beautiful and we were so excited to see this place we'd heard so much about! We drove about 14 miles up the mountain and hiked around some trails at the top. The scenery was absolutely spectacular. These pictures are great, but nothing like seeing it in person. I held on to my children tightly, to be sure!!

A Fall Tradition

A fall tradition of ours is a visit to the pumpkin patch.

pumpkin_patch01.jpg

The fun of it is not going to buy pumpkins...it's more like a celebration of the fall season. We enjoy the time together as a family and enjoy the cooler weather. This year we went with the Savage family. We really enjoy Dan & Jenny's company and our children have quickly become friends as well. We went to Hunter Farms and the kids did the hay maze (and the accompanying slide as well). They also watched a pirate make them balloon animals and I was so proud of Sarah to pick up the wandering chicken.

We also took the wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the greenhouse. For a few more pictures, check out Jenny's blog: http://savagephotography.blogspot.com/.

Upcoming Homeschool Meeting

For those of you in Kitsap County (or at least close by), I wanted to let you know about an upcoming meeting that may be of interest to you. We belong to the LINK Homeschool Group so that's where I received this information. However, you don't have to be a member to attend this guest lecture...you can just come with me. The meeting will be held at Keyport Bible Church on Tuesday, October 21, at 7:00 p.m.

Janice Hedin has been actively involved in the homeschool community in Washington State since 1983, at which time she lobbied for the Washington State homeschool law. She has two children, ages 30 and 28 who were homeschooled all the way to college and careers. She especially enjoys encouraging parents and teens to stick with it through the high school years by presenting her “Homeschooling High School” Seminar. She coordinated standardized testing for homeschoolers for 12 years. She is co-presenter of the homeschool parent- qualifying course, OPTions for Parent Teachers, sponsored by Pacific Lutheran University. The topics she will be covering are:
· Highlights of Washington’s Home-Based Instruction Law,
· Socialization
· Finding the best method of homeschooling for your own family, and
· Burnout prevention
